ACETAL (CO-POLYMER)
Acetals are thermoplastics with the chemical name “PolyOxyMethylene” (POM). Overall, acetal provides high strength and stiffness, enhanced dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, a low coefficient of friction, good wear and abrasion properties, good chemical resistance, and is easy to machine.
DELRIN® 150 (HOMO-POLYMER)
The Delrin® 150 acetal homopolymer offers higher mechanical properties than the acetal copolymer, but slightly less chemical resistance. This makes it ideal for small diameter, thin walled, bushings that benefit from the additional strength and rigidity.
DELRIN® AF BLEND (HOMO-POLYMER)
The Delrin® AF Blend is a 2:1 blend of Delrin® AF 100 and Delrin® 150 resins. It is manufactured from the Delrin® resins and then uniformly filled with PTFE fibers. These fibers provide better wear characteristics for Delrin® AF than the unfilled grade.
HDPE (HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE)
HDPE offers excellent impact resistance, is lightweight, has low moisture absorption, and has high tensile strength. It is also non-toxic, non-staining, and meets FDA and USDA certification. This makes HDPE ideal for food processing.
POLYCARBONATE (UNFILLED)
Unfilled polycarbonate is a high-molecular weight amorphous engineering thermoplastic. This tough and transparent material is unmatched in clarity and ability to withstand high impact over a wide range of temperatures.
POLYPROPYLENE (CO-POLYMER) – PPC
Polypropylene copolymer is a little bit softer and more pliable than the homopolymer but has better impact strength and is more durable. It is also more stress crack resistant and is tougher at lower temperatures. It can run in the temperature range -20º to 180º F. PPC is very versatile and inexpensive. Its lower rigidity is ideal for use in automotive tanks to prevent cracking from road vibration, and orthotic devices.
POLYPROPYLENE (HOMOPOLYMER) – PPH
Polypropylene homopolymer is the most utilized polypropylene. PPH is more rigid and stronger than the copolymer. It can run in the temperature range 30º to 180º F. It has good weldibility, has high performance in thermoforming, has good chemical resistance, and is also USDA, FDA, NSF, and 3-A Dairy compliant in the natural color.
POLYURETHANE (PU)
Polyurethane is an organic polymer known as an elastomer that offers the elasticity of rubber, the toughness and durability of metal, and a very broad hardness range. Because of this combination of properties, polyurethane can replace rubber, plastic, or metal.
PTFE (POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE)
PTFE is an abbreviation for PolyTetraFluoroEthylene. This material belongs to the fluorocarbon family. It is known to be the most chemically resistant plastic available and has the lowest coefficient of friction of all solid plastic material.
PVC (TYPE I POLYVINYL CHLORIDE)
Type I PVC is a rigid PVC which is a normal impact, high corrosion resistant, material that has a smooth finish on both sides and is used where chemical attack is an important concern.
