Material Information

PVC belongs to the vinyl family and is one of the most versatile amorphous thermoplastics that are in use today. PVC is readily available in sheets, rods, and pipe. Type I PVC is a rigid PVC which is a normal impact, high corrosion resistant, material that has a smooth finish on both sides and is used where chemical attack is an important concern, unlike Type II PVC, which is a high impact material with lower chemical resistance. This low cost thermoplastic also has good tensile/flexural/mechanical strength, has low moisture absorption, is a good thermal and electrical insulator, and has been shown to be self-extinguishing in flammability tests. PVC may be bent and shaped, welded, cemented, machined, and is ideal for areas in need of extreme durability, weatherability, corrosion, and flame resistance.
