Material Information

Torlon® 5530 PAI is an amorphous thermoplastic called a polyamide-imide. It is a 30% glass reinforced compression molded grade of Torlon® PAI. Torlon® PAI is the highest performing melt processable plastic and has superior resistance to elevated temperatures. It is able to perform with superior mechanical properties under severe stress conditions at continuous temperatures up to 500º F. Its glass transition temperature is 537º F. It also has good dimensional stability and creep, impact, and chemical resistance. However, Torlon® PAI has a relatively high moisture absorption rate so it should be kept dry prior to insulation. Torlon® 5530 PAI is ideal for higher load structural or electronic applications because its glass reinforcement improves the load capacity, rigidity, and retention of stiffness. It commonly replaces metals in certain applications because it is equivalent in strength and structural integrity while weighing over 75% less. Torlon® 5530 PAI is used specifically for large shapes or when the greatest degree of dimensional control is required. Quadrant® EPP uses the brand name Duratron® T5530 for this material.
