Nylon 6 belongs to the cast nylon family of materials. Cast nylons offer the widest array of sizes or custom shapes of any thermoplastic. Nylons are a frequently used material as replacements for bronze, brass, aluminum, steel, and other metals, especially in bearing or wear applications. Nylons offer excellent wear and impact resistance, have high tensile strength, a high modulus of elasticity, and have a high heat distortion temperature. They also resist wear, abrasion, and vibration. Nylons can withstand a variety of chemicals, alkalis, oxidizing agents, and dilute acids. However, nylons do absorb moisture, so they are not recommended for wet applications. Because of its high crystalinity, Nylon 6 has better heat deflection, better solvent resistance, better hygroscopic characteristics, and better dimensional stability than Nylon 6/6. Nylon 6 is available in rod, tube, and sheet. MC®901 is an unmodified cast type 6 nylon. MC®901 along with MC®907 have the highest strength and hardness of the nylon 6 grades. MC®901 is a temperature resistant grade that is heat stabilized and offers thermal stability up to 260º F. It is blue in color and is used for a number of bearing and structural applications.Application
