TORLON® 4301 PAI / DURATRON® 4301 (BEARING GRADE POLYAMIDE-IMIDE)
Material Information
Torlon® 4301 PAI is an amorphous thermoplastic called a polyamide-imide. It is an extruded grade of Torlon®. Torlon® is the highest performing melt processable plastic and has superior resistance to elevated temperatures. It is able to perform with superior mechanical properties under severe stress conditions at continuous temperatures up to 500º F. Its glass transition temperature is 537º F. It also has good dimensional stability and creep, impact, and chemical resistance. However, Torlon® has a relatively high moisture absorption rate so it should be kept dry prior to insulation. Torlon® 4301 is the grade best suited for general purpose wear and friction parts. Torlon® 4301 contains 12% graphite powder and 3% PTFE, which gives the material a very low expansion rate, a low coefficient of friction, and little or no slip-stick while in use. Its flexural modulus is also higher than most other advanced engineering plastics (1,000,000 psi). These characteristics allow Torlon® 4301 to excel in severe service wear applications. It is available in the form of sheets and rod.
Quadrant® EPP uses the brand name Duratron® T4301 for this material.
