Material Information
Polyurethane is an organic polymer known as an elastomer that offers the elasticity of rubber, the toughness and durability of metal, and a very broad hardness range. Because of this combination of properties, polyurethane can replace rubber, plastic, or metal. Urethanes have better abrasion and tear resistance than rubber while offering a higher load bearing capacity. They also have superior impact resistance, excellent wear properties, and elastic memory when compared to plastics. Urethanes commonly replace metal because of the weight reduction, the noise abatement, and improved wear resistance. Overall polyurethane has excellent abrasion resistance, oil and solvent resistance, load bearing capacity, tear resistance, weather resistance, flex life, electrical properties, heat and cold resistance, and noise abatement. It is available in precision-cast sheets, fabric-backed sheets, bars, rods, and tubes.
