NORYL® (MODIFIED PPO)

NORYL® (MODIFIED PPO)

Material Information

Noryl® is an amorphous modified polyphenylene oxide. Because of its PPO and styrene chemical composition, Noryl® exhibits unusually low moisture absorption and good electrical insulating properties over a wide range of humidities and temperatures. Also because of its alloy matrix composition, it is one of the few non-metallic materials that can be readily electroplated. Noryl® is lightweight, has superior impact strength, and is hydrolytically stable. Its flame retardant characteristics also make it ideal for use in public buildings. Although it is resistant to attack from water, salt solutions, acids, and bases, exposure to certain organic solvents may cause the polymer alloys to soften and crack. Because of this, coolants and cutting oils containing petroleum should not be used when fabricating Noryl®. Standard Noryl® is available in rod and plate in a black color, and glass fiber reinforced Noryl® is available in a grey color.
