DELRIN® 150 (HOMO-POLYMER)
Material Information
Delrin® 150 (unfilled) belongs to the acetal family of materials. Acetals are thermoplastics with the chemical name “PolyOxyMethylene” (POM). Overall, acetal provides high strength and stiffness, enhanced dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, a low coefficient of friction, good wear and abrasion properties, good chemical resistance, and is easy to machine. Moisture, lubricants, and solvents including gasoline have little effect on acetal, making them ideal for parts incorporating self-threading screws or interference fits. Acetals are available in a copolymer grade, a homopolymer grade (Delrin®), and a variety of filled Delrin® grades.
The Delrin® 150 acetal homopolymer offers higher mechanical properties than the acetal copolymer, but slightly less chemical resistance. This makes it ideal for small diameter, thin walled, bushings that benefit from the additional strength and rigidity. Also unlike the acetal copolymer, the Delrin® 150 homopolymer has center line porosity, especially in large cross-sections. Because of this porosity, Delrin® 150 is not compliant with USP class 6 However, it is FDA, USDA, and NSP compliant in the natural grade. Delrin ® 150 is only available in the colors black and natural, in the forms of rod and plate.
